In addition to driving, there are many ways to get around Ajax.

If you are unable to drive or are looking for other ways to get around Ajax that are less expensive and more sustainable, check out the options below.

Public Transit and Carpooling

Transit is a great way to travel further distances without focusing on driving. Time spent on transit can be used for working, relaxing, reading or listening to podcasts rather than focusing on the road or navigating through traffic.

Transit is available through Durham Region Transit (DRT) and GO Transit. Durham Region Transit provides bus routes to help people get to places within Durham Region. GO Transit provides bus routes and a train route to help people get to places within Durham Region and across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

Durham Region Transit Services (DRT) provides buses that help residents get to places in Ajax, Brock, Clarington, Oshawa, Pickering, Scugog, Uxbridge and Whitby. For more information on fares, schedules, routes and other updates and services, visit the Durham Region Transit website.

Customer Service Centre

The GO Train and GO buses are provided by Metrolinx.

 

The Town has one GO station with trains that travel along the Lakeshore East and Lakeshore West routes. The Lakeshore East and Lakeshore West routes travel between Hamilton and Oshawa. Passengers can also connect to routes leading to Kitchener, Milton, Barrie and Stouffville by transferring at Union GO Station.

There are also two GO bus routes that stop in Ajax: The 92 (Oshawa Yorkdale) and the 96 (Oshawa Finch Express).

Community Transportation Services

This is an alternative transportation option for individuals who are unable to use public transit because of needs related to aging, physical and/or mental health. Services provide personal transportation to doctor and medical appointments, errands and shopping, faith services, recreation programs, etc. Fee for services.

Ajax Seniors Club

Free Transportation - Wednesdays for Seniors

Did you know that the Ajax Seniors Club offers transportation for its members? Service is available on Wednesdays at the St. Andrews location. To book your ride, please call 905-686-1573. The latest reservation should be taken before 9 a.m. on the day of busing.

Senior Driver’s Licence Renewal Program

Ontario-licensed drivers 80 years of age and older must renew their licence every two years. Renewal includes a vision test, a driver record review, participating in a Group Education Session, and, if necessary, a road test.

Bike

Did you know that it is possible to bike to most places in Ajax in less than half an hour? Ajax has many amenities, services, tasty restaurants, cultural landmarks, events and beautiful scenery that are just a bike ride away. Whether you are new to biking, a weekend warrior, a commuter, social rider or someone who bikes from time to time, Ajax has many bike route options that people of different ages can enjoy in different seasons.

Micromobility

E-scooters and E-bikes

Did you know that it is possible to get to most places in Ajax by e-bike or e-scooter in less than half an hour?

Electric kick scooters and pedal-assist e-bikes are emerging across the world, offering convenient transportation options, notably for people without access to a car and who do not live near transit. They are also useful for people who may not have the physical capacity to use conventional bikes and scooters. E-scooters and e-bikes are only for people ages 16+.
