Witnessing Legal Documents
The Corporate Services department in Ajax Town Hall offers Commissioner of Oaths services. Commissioner services include most affidavits, oaths and statutory declarations.
The Town does not have a Notary Public and cannot notarize documents.
All parties required to sign the document must attend our office, in person, with a valid piece of government-issued photo identification (Health cards cannot be accepted as a form of ID). Documents should not be signed until you are in the presence of the commissioner of oaths.
A Commissioner is available during regular business hours at Ajax Town Hall, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Residents*: $27.50 (incl. tax) for up to 5 signatures
- Non-residents: $33.00 (incl. tax) for up to 5 signatures
- Fee Waiver: Anyone applying for a Name Change and requiring the services of a Commissioner of Oaths will have the fee waived.
*Proof of residence is required.
To confirm if our commissioners can sign your document please review the lists above. If your document is not listed, please call our office at 905-683-4550.
PLEASE NOTE: The Commissioner of Oaths is witnessing the signature of the individual(s) presenting their document and in doing so is making no guarantee that the form(s) being signed will be accepted by various institutions (e.g. by businesses, employers, educational institutions, or even town facilities).
